As a child I always loved catching frogs and other critters. And I still do. While in St.Johns, as soon as the sun went down, we were surrounded with the sound of frogs and peepers (listen). It was fascinating (if not slightly annoying). They sound like they are saying “cookie”, and it is how the frog got its name: coqui. All of the Caribbean are filled with all kinds of tree frogs.
Coqui frogs are small frogs that are about the size of the tip of your pinkie finger! They’re absolutely adorable! They come from Puerto Rico (they are a common symbol of the country), but have since spread to surrounding areas. I spent many nights running around the trees and the house looking for frogs, as well as geckos and skinks.
